Field trip for university students in the Buda Mountains

WWF Hungary and the Károly Kaán Ecoclub of the University of Sopron organized a one-day field trip within the CLIMAFORCEELIFE project on 25 October 2024. The event was led by the experts of Pilis Parkforests Plc, Budapest Forestry, the manager of the forests in Buda Mountains area and members of WWF Hungary’s Forest Programme. Participants got insight into the challenges of urban forest management. The pressure caused by the expanding suburban area around Budapest has extreme impact on the capital’s forests. In addition to the high recreational demand, climate change poses additional challenges for forest managers, whose most task is to ensure continuous forest cover, which often requires a new and progressive approach.

During a walk on the Hárs hill, forestry director István Rittling gave a detailed presentation of their management practice of continuous forest cover.

WWF Hungary’s experts introduced the work of the Forest Programme and WWF Hungary’s forest climate adaptation concept.
