Field trips for the public in Bulgaria

This June, WWF Bulgaria organized two a half-day walk on Vitosha mountain to talk about one of the biggest challenges in forestry – forest management in conditions of climate change. Those present learned interesting information about Vitosha Nature Park and its inhabitants.

We talked about what measures should be implemented to make forests more resilient to climate change. Why and how we monitor birds, bats and insects, and when thinning operations are necessary in forests that are affected by various natural disturbances.

We explained the importance of dead wood to a forest ecosystem. How it provides habitat and serves as food for many species of plants, animals and fungi.

Almost 50 participants joined the both trips and met some of the forest inhabitants.

The walks were organized as part of the implementation of the activities of the project CLIMAFORCEE, co-financed by the LIFE program of the EU.
