The forests are actually very important in climate change mitigation and adaptation. Climate change makes silviculture even more difficult than in the past. Particularly challenging is the situation in the lowlands in western Slovakia. Foresters pointed out the problem in the Záhorie region where lasting droughts makes forest management almost impossible. They had said that they would need to find new ways of forest management. We tried to find solutions to these problems and came up with „climate smart management “. This is how the CLIMAFORCEELIFE project for Central and Eastern Europe emerged.
