Video series on climate-smart forestry measures

The healthier and more diverse a forest is, the better it resists the effects of climate change. This is beneficial both for the species living in it, and for us. WWF Hungary together with its private forest owner partners apply and test different forest management measures, which can help forests to be more natural and increase their resilience. A four-part video series produced in the CLIMAFORCEELIFE project presents four different forestry methods:

  • Péter Laczkó showcases how he retains water in his forest near Füzér by piling stones to raise small, leaky dams which slow down water flow;
  • István Haluska from Komlóska installs nesting boxes and puts out acorn trays for jays to enhance diversity in his young forest which is poor in species;
  • In his forests around Vác, Gábor Flamich replaces Black and Scots pines which have been deteriorated due to climate change with more resilient native species;
  • Tamás Frank in his plantation forest near Bátor, consisting of Scots and Black pines, fosters the growth of forest edges, which play an important role in preserving the cool, humid climate of the forest.
