Afforestation in harmony with climate change

It will take years before the burned forest in Pirin comes back to life as we remember it. Fire destroys in days what nature builds over decades. But recovery begins with something small – with every planted sapling, with every helping hand.

Today, hope is being reborn. With care and attention, drought-resistant and fire-resilient species are being selected to withstand the new climate realities. In this area, priority is given to planting Quercus petraea, Quercus frainetto and wild fruit species – trees that bring strength, resilience, and a future.

On April 8, during Forest Week, employees of the SWSFE and volunteers discussed the challenges of climate change – a key focus of the CLIMAFORCEELIFE project. This is not a distant problem – it is a reality we already see around us.

More than 100 people contributed to the forest’s recovery by planting “their” trees. The forest will recover. Slowly, with difficulty, but surely. And each of us can be part of this process. Because every sapling is a battle. Every action matters. And the future begins with what we do today.
