On 28.07.2023, in the office of SWSFE – Blagoevgrad, a working meeting was held between experts of the enterprise and colleagues from partner organizations in Greece and Italy, working on the implementation of projects financed by the EC LIFE Programme. The meeting was attended by representatives of the SWSFE, engaged with the implementation of the LIFE REFOREST and CLIMAFOCEELIFE projects, as well as experts from the LifePRIMED project team, jointly implemented by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature and Sapienza University of Rome. In the working meeting and the held discussions took part also the Director of SWSFE – Mr. Valentin Chambov.
During the meeting, the possibilities for cooperation in the field of biodiversity conservation, restoration of natural ecosystems and adaptation to climate change at EU cross-border level were discussed. As a first step, an agreement was reached to organize a joint international seminar on the topic of protection and restoration of riparian forests along the River Mesta/Nestos in a trans-boundary context. The seminar will take place in November and will include expert presentations, discussions and field visits in the cross-border region of Gotse Delchev – Bulgaria and Keramoti – Greece. At the seminar, the possibilities for the development of future joint projects of SWSFE and international partners will be discussed.
