Forestry days in Slovakia at the end of April

In April, Forestry Days took place in Slovakia, which are held annually during the international Earth Day under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic. For the second year, WWF Slovakia is also taking part. This year we presented our work in the field of forest at the 17th annual event at SNP Square in Zvolen on 21.04.2023, but also on 22.04.2023 at Partizánska lúka in Bratislava. In Zvolen, the Forestry Days are the most important forestry event in the region and this year it was attended by 7,500 – 9,000 visitors.

The event is aimed at informing the general public about the importance and functions of forests, raising awareness of biodiversity issues and sustainable forest management, as well as introducing the work of foresters and the tasks of forest management. During the day, groups of children from kindergarten, primary and secondary schools, families with children as well as individuals interested in forest protection issues took turns at our stand marked with the logo of WWF and the CLIMAFORCEELIFE project. At the event, we presented our work on the CLIMAFORCEELIFE project, which deals with the implementation of climate-smart forest management in Central and Eastern Europe for the benefit of people and nature. Our experts explained the principles of climate-smart forest management to the participants, showed the locations where the project plans are being implemented and described the project measures. We explained to the children in a playful way what a healthy forest looks like and the youngest ones could play with puzzles or blocks with pictures of forest animals.
